23rd May 2000

Well, Thursday and Friday it rained quite heavily here and poor Gwyn was out in it all day both days doing the training for her test. Unforunately Gwyn failed the test. She forgot to cancel a turn signal on one occasion and that was enough.

She re-takes it on June 9th.

Nuff said!

We did not get out at all at the weekend the weather has been, and still is, appalling here.

I have had an email asking about the footpegs on the Majesty and how much highter than the riders footboard they are so I thought I would put up a photo of them. Apparently some scooters footpegs are a bit of a stretch for small passengers (much like the Burgman). Not so with the Majesty.

5th June 2000

WELL! We buy bikes and then we have the wettest April on record, rain throughout May and flooding in some parts of the UK in early June.

Niether of the Scooters have moved much in a month. I do start them both once a week and run them for a couple of miles when we get a dry hour or two.

I have had a buzzer fitted to the Honda 125 so Gwyn will not leave the turn signal on again! Her re-test is on Friday and once again all fingers are crossed that this time she passes.

To be honest her failing last time has not restricted us at all as we would not have been able to go out anyway because of the weather. This is really getting me down!!!

27th June 2000

Horror of horrors Gwyn failed the test again. On something different this time. I went to see her at the centre before the test and jokingly said, "if you fail this time don't bother coming home". Her reply was "if you got me a proper bike I may have an incentive to pass". We later had a talk and it turns out she would feel happier with a motorcycle rather than a scooter.

I have now traded the scooters in for a matching pair of Kawasaki ER5s. So I suppose this is as far as this site goes!!

Gwyn takes the test again tomorrow (28th June) and although we are no longer "scooterists" I hope anyone reading this will wish her luck. I will post the result here for anyone interested and I suppose that will be the end of the Scooter Site.

1st August 2000

It has been a while since I updated the site and much has happened in the meantime. Gwyn failed her test on the 28th June but passed on the 14 July HORRAY!!!!

Her ER5 was stored at the dealers during the interim but she now has it and it is nearly run-in.

I on the other hand run my ER5 in and decided I would like something a little "meatier". I fancied a 4 cylinder machine with plenty of output. There was nothing at all wrong with the ER5 but I did find it physically a little small (strange really as I am not that big).

I did some research on the "net" for machines with around 100bhp that were not so incredible heavy that if I dropped it I would have to hire a crane to pick it up.

I narrowed the search to 2 models the Honda Hornet and the Yamaha Fazer. Both 600cc 4 cylinder machines with around 100bhp. The final decision came down to aesthetics and where I could get the best deal. In the end I went for the Fazer, I am not sure whether it is the better bike but I got a cracking deal on it not losing a great deal on the ER5 and I personally think it is the better looking of the two.

Also the Honda dealer here did not seem particulary interested in my business when I went to see the Hornet. This was the same dealer I visited for the Burgman and the attitude was the same then which is why I ended up buying it unseen. Seems strange to me that this dealer has in effect lost 2 sales to me because they could not be bothered.
