More about us.

I originally decided on a scooter for all the usual reasons, weather protection, storage space, etc.

I wanted something that had reasonable perfomance, that would cruise at a reasonable speed two-up and would not break the bank. I found a pre-registered 1999 model Yamaha Majesty YP 250 at a local dealer at £1,000 less than the 2000 model, so I snapped it up. Pics and thoughts HERE

One good thing about the Majesty is the raised position of the passenger footrests. This enables our 8 year old little girl Jenny to ride pillion with no problems. I was a little concerned she may be nervous about going on the bike but my fears were allayed - she loves it! So, we often clear off and leave poor Gwyn twiddling her thumbs!

Gwyn has now declared she wants to take her test so she can ride the Majesty. I did point out that there was only 2 seats on the bike and there is 3 of us. "Well we need onother bike then don't we" she said.

This is how I came to the decision to buy a Suzuki Burgman 400. I had not heard of these machines until after I had bought the Majesty. I looked in vain to find one locally and so I had to buy it blind and from out of town. I would not normally buy anything without actually seeing it but it appeared in this case it was either that or a long journey just to look at one.

As of this date 28 March 2000 the Burgman has not arrived as soon as it does I will put pages up about it. So check back soon!

The Burgman arrived on the evening of 29 March 2000. Pics, thoughts, specs, etc. HERE

As the whole idea of this exercise was for the 3 of us to have days out Scootering together Gwyn needed to do some training to enable her to ride the Majesty.

In the UK in order to ride any bike a CBT (Compusory Basic Training) certificate must be obtained. Gwyn went off for the day on Thursday March 30 2000 to endure this. The day consists of off road manoeuvres, lectures in a classroom, and a final on road test. If the instructors do not think you are going to be safe you must go back and do it again until you reach a satisfactory standard. The test is done on a 125 if you wish to ride anything other than a Moped. Luckily the weather was OK and Gwyn duly arrived back clutching the certificate.

However this only allows the riding of a 125 with L plates to ride the Majesty another two days must be completed with a Dept of Transport test at the end. This is booked for the middle of May 2000.

We had a discussion and I was concerned that if she were to not ride on the road between the CBT and her full test passing would be very difficult. With this in mind we decided to find a second hand 125 with gears so she could practice.

We managed to find an old Honda CG 125 for her to practice on and off we all went for our first ride. When we were returning we got to within 1/2 a mile of home and Gwyn suffered a rear wheel puncture and had to push the bike the rest of the way. Jenny and I went home and put the kettle on. At the time of writing the 125 is in the yard minus the rear wheel. Should the rain ever stop I will replace it.

If there are any lady bikers out there who can give Gwyn hair care tips with regard to wearing a helmet she sure would appreciate it HA! HA!
